Art Scilly

Next week is Art Scilly, a week of arts and crafts classes and exhibitions on the beautiful Isles of Scilly. Although the classes I attended were outside of this dedicated week, last year I had the pleasure of attending both the precious metal clay and sterling silver classes with Paula Smith. Paula was a fantastic teacher, patient and friendly and not at all intimidating, despite her obvious talent for creating the most beautiful silver jewellery. She really put me at ease as I had never used precious metal clay or sterling silver before and I thoroughly enjoyed both classes. Class sizes are kept small so you can be sure of getting the help and guidance that you need. I came away with a gorgeous sterling silver ring, a pair of PMC earrings and a PMC pendant, all of which I designed and made myself and now wear with great pride! If you get the chance to visit Scilly, I heartily recommend taking part in these and other courses, some of which run at other times during the year. For more ideas of what is available, please see http://scillyonline.co.uk/artscilly/index.html For contact details of the artists involved in Art Scilly, please click here

Time flies!

Oops! I can't believe it's a year since I posted on this blog! I was just thinking about my holiday memories from this year's trip to Scilly and logged on to post a few pics only to find myself looking at those from last year... Still, it's great to be reminded of that holiday too! This year we were lucky enough to see the Red Arrows for the first time flying over the islands at the first Islands Regatta... Another first was seeing the new Pot Buoys Gallery (formerly the Bulb Shop) on St Agnes and getting to meet the lovely Emma who took over from Mandy Pearce. Emma has done an amazing job in revamping the shop into a gorgeous gallery and I'm very proud to have my jewellery there amongst so many talented artists and makers. Here are a few photos to give you a taste of the new gallery. So many gorgeous things to buy! My jewellery is hanging in the window in that lovely bauble! Emma is a very talented artist herself (you can buy her...

On Sale in Scilly

This year I am delighted to once again have my jewellery for sale at The Bulb Shop on St Agnes in Scilly. Sadly for me, Adrian and Amanda Pearce who run the little shop are retiring after this season, but I'm quite sure that they have earned a happy retirement on the beautiful island that is their home. In the meantime, do pop in to The Bulb Shop if you are lucky enough to be visiting Scilly. St Agnes is utterly unspoilt and the shop is a real treasure trove! Here are a few of my pieces that are currently on sale in Scilly... Green and Gold Scilly Flora crochet wire bracelet (inspired by Bermuda Buttercups!) Starfish Earrings in Crystal Copper Scilly Night Sky mesh wire & crystal brooch Crystal Cockle Shell pendant in Gold Silver Sea mesh wire & crystal brooch And here are a couple that have recently sold! (Don't worry, you can still get them via our website!) Starfish Earrings in Teal Blue St...

The Alien has Landed!

It's not quite finished but here is my completely crazy felt creation (from a previous post entitled 'Is that an alien on your head'.. in hat form. I need some nice matching felt to go on the underside to finish it off but I'm quite pleased so far. Now to find someone who would wear it! That could be trickier!! My favourite bit has to be the 'dreads' (an unusual alternative to feathers I think you'll agree) and beads - I guess it all looks a bit like seaweed in the water. It's hard to make out from the pic but there are some lovely coral and blue sparkly threads in the middle. (materials courtesy of my Mum with blue sewing thread from www.alteredelement.co.uk )
