Christmas Inspiration

We're getting into the Christmas spirit now having had Christmas craft fairs to attend every week and less than 3 weeks to go until the big day! If you're looking for a little inspiration for the lady who has everything, why not purchase something unique and handmade?

Here are just a few ideas from our Christmas collection of sparkly stocking fillers...

Swarovski Crystal Christmas Tree Earrings...

A sophisticated new colourway - jet and crystal

All that is gold, does not glitter.. but these do!

Lit up like a Christmas Tree!

You don't get more classic Christmas than red and green!

One of our most popular - we've named this one Mistletoe!

How about a stunning silver hand-knitted brooch featuring Swarovski Crystals

Or a sparkling star pendant? (We also have snowflakes!) Available in clear or iridescent clear (as pictured)

Just a few ideas to inspire you. Available to purchase at www.etsy.com/shop/inspiredscilly (payment by paypal or credit/debit card) or purchase direct from me by emailing inspiredscilly@hotmail.co.uk (payment will be invoiced via paypal).

Christmas Markets

We're going to be busy this season so here's a list of all the Christmas Craft Markets we will be attending this year:

Just Makers Christmas Craft Exhibition (7th-23rd November)

A two-week event housed in the beautiful Bath House at RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate. In honour of our garden-themed location, we will be bringing along our fabulous floral rings and some sparkly Christmas tree earrings. As the name suggests, this event plays host to a range of high quality, handmade items from local makers. Support handmade and grab some original gifts for Christmas.

Also, don't forget that RHS Harlow Carr are hosting a Free Day Friday on 7th November giving visitors the chance to get in to the gardens for FREE! More details here: http://bit.ly/1xSzV5I

York Christmas Fair (22nd-23rd November)

Another green-fingered venue, York Christmas Fair at Skelton Garden Centre on Shipton Road made its seasonal debut last year. With a cafe for refreshments (including delicious hog roasts!), a great atmosphere and a wide variety of stalls, it is bound to be even more popular this year! There is even a Santa's grotto for the little ones! www.yorkchristmasfair.com

Whixley Village Winter Craft Fair (30th November)

This pretty North Yorkshire village has now extended their popular Christmas craft fair to become a full day event. Come along and grab a stocking filler or two... Details at http://bit.ly/1nQ7Lrt

Tithe Barn Poppleton Christmas Fair (6th December)

Another fantastic venue, this fair allows visitors the chance to see inside the beautiful and historic Tithe Barn in Nether Poppleton near York. Open from 10am-4.30pm

Look forward to seeing you there!

Floral Fancies

Summer may be over but we haven't left behind the floral theme that we embraced earlier this year thanks to these gorgeous vintage style flower rings. They were a big hit at the Spring Just Makers Fair at Harlow Carr in Harrogate and we're bringing them back for Autumn/Winter as we think they'd make a really sweet stocking filler!

With Downton Abbey back on our screens, the trend for vintage is still big and we love the vintage vibe that these rings simply exude!

You can now purchase our delicious dahlia flower rings online at this link: http://etsy.me/1uGiqn0 or if you're more of a rose lady, choose from our ravishing rose rings at http://etsy.me/1EyhZSl . You can select from an assortment of colours to suit everyone. We think this gorgeous grey is going to be a big hit for Winter!

And if you like these or are looking for some unique gifts for Christmas, head on over to The Bath House at RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate from November 7th to November 23rd where we'll be selling our fabulous floral rings and crystal Christmas Tree earrings as part of the Christmas Craft Exhibition.

Inspired Scilly Jewellery..in Scilly!

Anyone who knows me well will tell you how much I adore the Isles of Scilly ever since my first family holiday to those remote islands as a daydreaming teenager. It is little wonder that such a magical place caught my imagination and has drawn me back, year after year. So now that I've fulfilled my ambition to become a penniless 'something creative', what could possibly be better than to finally have my work on sale at one of the islands' best loved gift shops, The Bulb Shop on the tiny island of St Agnes.

Once a stable for milking cows, The Bulb Shop later evolved to include a cold store for cooling precious scented narcissi blooms prior to packing for market, before becoming the treasure trove of crafts and creations that it is today. The Bulb Shop has something for everyone, including a variety of jewellery to suit all tastes and styles, from stunning silver to brightly coloured beach plastic and now, I'm delighted to say, my own quirky mix of Swarovski sparkle and hand woven mesh bracelets and brooches.

Mesh Wire Brooch in Shades of the Sea

If jewellery is not for you, this Aladdin's cave will surely tempt you in with an array of both local and fair-trade goods such as scarves, ceramics, hand-illustrated cards, soaps infused with essential oils from locally farmed produce and of course the famous Scilly narcissi - the shop stocks bulbs farmed on St Agnes through the family-run business. My own purchase of 'Paper White' were absolutely stunning this year and, as a variety I haven't grown before, I was particularly impressed with their scent. To keep up-to-date with shop news and availability of flowers by post via their postal service, you can follow The Bulb Shop on Twitter at https://twitter.com/bulbshop.

Pop into The Bulb Shop on St Agnes and take home a bit of Scilly sparkle to remind you of high days and holidays... Alternatively take a look at my Etsy shop where I now accept card payments or get in touch with me at inspiredscilly@hotmail.co.uk.

Spring

I'm currently busy preparing for the Just Makers Craft Fair at RHS Harlow Carr which starts this Friday 2nd May and runs until 1st June. It will be the first year I've exhibited my work at this month long fair and I'm really excited to be a part of it. Pop in to The Old Bath House at the gardens if you're visiting as it promises to be a great event. In the meantime, here are some playful, colourful pieces that I've been making...

Chinese New Year of the Horse

This Chinese New Year is the Year of the Horse (which happens to be one of my favourite animals) so to celebrate I've collated a few Scilly links concerning all things horsey!

Accommodation -

With it's privileged position, atop the Garrison on St Mary's, White Horses boasts sea and island views and an attractive terraced area for al fresco dining. For more information, see www.sibleysonscilly.co.uk

Seahorse, one of the Sea Garden self-catering cottages on Tresco boasts a wood-burning stove, master bedroom ensuite, barbeque, balcony and sea views. See more at www.tresco.co.uk/accommodation

Things to Do -

St Mary's Riding Centre for lessons, hacks and carriage rides - www.scillyonline.co.uk/stables/home.php

Scilly Carriages provides leisurely carriage rides around St Mary's - www.scillycarriages.co.uk

Take a trip to an off island aboard the tripper boat, Seahorse. Built locally on St Mary's, it's one of a fleet of tripper boats that form the St Mary's Boatman's Association - www.scillyboating.co.uk/boats.htm

Have a wander through the Higher and Lower Moors Nature trails and besides spotting birds and natural flora and fauna, you may see some Dartmoor ponies grazing the area to help with land management. www.ios-wildlifetrust.org.uk

IOS Wildlife Trust Ponies grazing the Lower Moors area

Things to See -

Oriel's Hick's beautiful stained windows are found all over the islands - follow the link to see her carousel horses and many more beautiful designs - www.phoenixstainedglass.co.uk/commissions/carousel.html

Horse Point - walk to the most southerly tip of St Agnes and look in awe at the fiercesome, jagged rocks. While you're there look for the Nag's Head, an ancient standing stone in the shape of a horse's head on Wingletang Down.

A nice blog article introducing you to the horses of Tresco - click here to read The Horses of Tresco.
